I have a superchips microtuner for my 2002 250 5.4 and I love it. 1yr and 14000 miles no problems. Can't say anything about the other but I would buy superchips again. The tech person I talked with on the phone was very helpful too,had an answer for every question I had, knew his stuff.
I bought a HyperTech Power Programmer for a F-150 I had a while back, then tried them again on a 2001 Camaro Z-28 that I turned in last October for my F-250. Neither did much of anything for either vehicle. In fact, I think the Z-28 ran better stock than with the programmed modifications (that car/motor combo did not NEED a rev limiter!).
Anyway, I haven't heard much bad about the SuperChips, and Kenny here on FTE is a whiz at programming them for your specific needs (so I've heard), so I'd opt for the SuperChips if I were you. I have heard that the programmers do more for the diesels than the gassers, so look into that as well... see if it's worth the $$$.
I have the superchip on my 2003 7.3 and I love it!!! great response over stock and better milage. I keep mine in the hi-perf towing and get 20 mpg on the highway.
Then I would recommend the Superchips Microtuner...
REALLY helped my 02 X's 7.3L perfom and shift like it should have from the factory...
AND gave me 2-3 MPG betta fuelage !
then the Hellwig rear sway bar upgrade made it such that I could carry the new speed around the corners !!!
There is alot of info about this in the Chips and tuner forum. But the SuperChip tuner tunes all RPM ranges were the Hypertech only tunes at WOT. So unless you really put your foot in it all the time you will not get much out of the Hypertech. You will get the most performance out of a diablo chip. They all have pros and cons. It depends on how you want to use it.. Check out the chips and tuner forum.
I have had both the Superchips micro tuner and the Predator tuner in my 2000 F-250 SD 7.3 and I think the predator is much easier to work with, has more power options and allows you to tune the tranny shift with an auto just the way you want it. I get really good performance. While towing a jeep Cherokee on a car trailer it will still smoke the rear tires. Scary huh?
I had a 1995 F250 PSD Banks powerpack, highflow injectors,BD exhaust brake, 5'' exhaust . Recently sold--mistake. My current truck is a '99 F350 4x4 PSD stock and was wondering if the Diablo predator would bring the power close to what I am used to.
99,
I have no idea how much horse power your old truck put to the wheels but I think the Predator will do it. It will give you as much as 110 horse power increase. Of course in order to pull with that kind of power for ANY length of time you WILL have to modify the exhaust at the least. If you make the engine work that hard with stock exhaust it will surely cook the turbo and take out the rest of the engine in the process. The good thing about the predator is you have at least five or six power increase selections going from 45hp all the way to 110. You also get a high altitude program as well as the ability to increase the firmness of your auto's shifts. Mine has the 60hp program and the moderate shift firmness set up and it gives you a nice kick in the butt when it shifts. No other mods are neccessary. Eventually I will put a 4 inch exhaust in it but not for awhile. I like to drive it more than work on it. I must admit that when I pull up next to an empty dodge/cummins while I am pulling my loaded car trailer up a hill and then just pull away easily it DOES feel good. I also get 14mpg while doing this which compared to my old 89/460 is pretty good.
Enjoy
