rear axle?

hello

got a question about my rear axle.
does anyone know what the size of my rear axle is?
8 or 9 inch?? or so.
got a lincoln mk4 1974

Do you have a removable cover on the back of the differential? If you do, then it's probably not a 9". It would probably be something else...

It wouldn't be an 8" either. More than likely you have a 9". Does your mark have a 429?

no i don`t have a removable cover at the back. and it has a 460 cid.

Can't recall the exact trick, but I think a deep well socket will fit flat on the carrier bolts all the way around on a 9." The 8" would have difficulty on some of them bacause of the pinion or the flange... hope that jogs someone's memory.

A 460 should be a 9" by default.
