Hello, do anyone have experience with installing a DVD system in an excursion? I have a 2000 XLT, and would like do install a system for entertainment of the kids. I would be grateful for any advice regarding which system, brand, where to buy, etc.
I recently had my DVD system installed. The name brand is Directed Video. I had a 10.4" fold down screen installed for the 2nd & 3rd row seats and a 5.6 " screen installed for the passenger. Now that I have used it for awhile I recommend installing 2 7 inch monitors in the rear of the captains chairs instead of the 10.4 fold down because it will block your rear view.
As far as installation, it depends on your skill level and patience!!!!
I just had mine installed early this week. I didn't want the big monitors simply because they are too bulky looking. I wanted a clean look so I went with 7' monitors on each of rear headrest of the captain chairs. I also have a great sound system in the vehicle, so I also got a FM module. It's like a home theatre in there! I aslo got the game ports that is mounted on the rear side of the center console. It is a flush unit that has the ports and even an electrical outlet. So now I can use my Laptop. It also came with wireless headphones. Its great one can play PlayStation 2 while the other one watches a DVD.
I am thinking of getting the Clarion unit to replace the factory CD player. Its a cool system where the screen flips into place.
We just had a 10 1/2 monitor installed in the ceiling, with the dvd unit installed under the second row seat. It cost $599 installed at FRY electronics and opted for the cord less headphones another $24.95 per headphone. Unit works great just went on 4 hour drive, and the kids didn't fight or ask "Are we there yet" Cordless unit is great because we can listen to our nice stereo system instead of of the rugrat movie
the downside when installing a monitor on the headrest is when the seat is reclined the picture doesnt look good. if you can find a monitor that is adjustable, get it. i have 2 audiovox 5.6 good pictures do you want it?
