I have an opportunity to buy an 84 B2 and the owner says he has eletrical problems with it. I asked what it was doing and he tole me that the battery is drawing a charge and dieing if the cables are left on after you shut it down. He has had the alternator checked and that was fine and so was the battery. I think maybe the voltage regulator but am not sure. He wants $800 or best offer, what does anyone think about that? Thanks
Sounds like a short, My friends old Taurus had the same symptoms, and it was the ciggarette lighter's plug. Shorts are a pain, cause they are hard to find. As for that offer, if the rest of the B2 is good, and you don't mind searching through wires, see how low he will go. I bet $650 will take it home. I gave $1000 for my 86.
To find the problem you can hook up a 12 volt test lamp between the negative battery cable & negative post on the battery. If the lamp shines brightly remove & reinstall one fuse at a time until the bulb goes dim.
Thanks! I thank I am going to call him.I have a 78 Bronco put I just had the radiator repaired, then it broke again, purchased a new radiator; it still had a leak took it back to the shop the removed it, fixed it, then reinstalled it then on my way home the lower hose poped off and I believe it blew the engine. I am about to sue the shop, so we'll see how it goes.
I'm having the same problem with my 86 ford bronco 2, 2.9 L engine, the problem is, where do i find the voltage regulator?? I looked everywhere but can't find it. I'm no mechanic so any help would be great!
