Hello, I have an 85 F-150 with a 300 straight 6 carbureated engien on it. I bought the truck and the guy said he replaced the engine with an engine out of an 80-83 Bronco, he couldnt remember, but anyways. It has a 1bbl carter carb, non feedback, electric choke on it, can someone tell me the model number so I can get a rebuild kit for it, there is NOT any numbers stamped anywhere on the carb, this is the first I have seen this, and there was not a tag on it, it Just says Carter on it and there is a sticker that says remanafactured for Motorcraft. Thank you very much.
Actually tell them it's a Carter YFA non-feedback. The YF was not installed on the 80-83 300's, and you will be missing parts in the rebuild kit. If all else fails let them know it came out of one of those years and they should be able to see if the kit part number is the same. Otherwise there should be a tag on the carb, or at the very least a casting number on the block to help knock down a date.
You will need the tag number to order the right rebuild kit for the Carter YF even if you know what vehicle the carburetor is from. There are at least four different versions of rebuild kits available for this line of carburetors. You may be able to get a generic kit but I've rebuilt a lot of Carters and trying to get the right kit without the tag number is a bit of a gamble. You may want to try getting a rebuilt carb for your rig. More expensive unless you have to buy 4-5 kits to get the right one. Good luck!
I have the carter YFA non feedback with electric choke on an 83 F150. Chilton manual has exploded diagram picture if that would help. (library?)
I too am having fuel problems and as I am new cannot email you guys...please visit my new posts on "inline 6". Thanks
I solved my flooding problem (ran rich) by removing the "new" needle valve and seat I had gotten in a NAPA kit and replacing it with the old setup (I cleaned it up w/carb cleaner and emery cloth). I gave NAPA the tag number....they still sold me the wrong kit.
It took me a long time to figure it out...chased vacuum leaks, you name it....
