hay all,I have a 351m that doesn't seem to want to stay timed changed my gears and chain about a year ago and it run fine, until now it's starting to sputter until my rpms go up and shifts its an automatic.runs noticeably rough at idle could it be time to replace my cam,or do I have another problem.PS the truck has 172+ miles on the original 81 351m any help would be appreciated thanx.
Do you have a repair manual? If you do there is all sorts of info in them with nice exploded drawings etc. If you don't feel up to examining the distributor innards a good old time auto shop mechanic can get the job done.
Check to make shur that the pick coil does not hit the sprag, if the bushing is lose on the plate that it sits on it will hit and couse if to miss on that cyclender. And it is not always the some one. At a idle it will do this, but at 1000 rpm the sprag ask like a fan and blowes it back so it does not hit. I have 2 mouths of heir pulling before changing the dis. .
found out why it wouldnt stay timedthe bolt kept vibrating loose beacause the airconditioning pump is in the way had to take it all apart to get it tight enuff, but stil; having same problem,I'm going to try doing what you guys metioned above thanx for the help
engine seems to be draging like when the timing isn't advanced enuff .thought it was just me but it did this just beafore I changed the the timing chain a year ago,and then it run fine for a year ,didnt expect this prblem to pop up again is this still the dizzy ,I'm going crazy, i've been playing with this engine for over three years ,it runs good for a few months and then it @#$# up and I think this engine is tired and is need of some searious mods to wake it up.
