Lift or not?

Hi,I have a 1986 F150 4X4.It currently has the stock tires and wheels.I want to put 33 X 12.50 tires on it.My question is do I need a lift or will 33s fit without a lift?If I do need to lift it would a body lift be good enough.?Thanks for the input.

i would go with a 4" suspension lift and call it done. yea its more expensive but itll look a hell of alot better than the body lift would. but if your not worried about how it looks hell dont even worry about it and when you get the 33's just slap em' on and cut the fenders. if you go that route youll still have decent axle clearance as well a low center of gravity. hell you might even beable to slap the tires on there without a lift or cutting the fenders. what sisze tires are on the truck already? a 245/75 is the same size as a 31 so if you have larger tires thatn a 245/75 you might only have a problem with the width of the new meats and not the height. what type 33x12.50 you plan on running? all terrain ot a stout mud terrain?

Thanks for the reply 824x4ride.I currently have 235/75 tires.I would like to run TSL Super Swamper tires.I really dont want to pay the extra money for the suspension lift, but if that is the only way the 33s would work I quess I dont have a choice.I figured the body lift with the gap filler things would work.It doesnt have to look perfect so long as it is safe.It is just a work/play truck. Thanks again.

Well......I'd have to say that a suspension lift is more safe than a body lift. Think if how much more torque is applied to those body mount bolts when they are extend 1,2, or even 3 inches.

They'll fit with NO lift at all and probably about $5 in parts. Put the tires on and call up your old friend from Milwaukee, Mr. Sawzall. Trust me, they'll fit

they should fit just fine without a lift, depending on how much your fron susp is sagging, and no mater what kind of lift you have....the tires rubbing the radius arms depends on what kind of wheels oyu select

If you even have to lift it, get a 2" body lift, and be done. Body lift costs less than $100 and will be more stable, and offer a better ride than a 4" susp. lift. Really, the only place you need to worry about clearance is with the front end, and with anything up to 35's, you would be ok.

damn liljase the tires you are running are pretty compareable to the tires on my car 235/65/16's ...how much fender clearance do youhave with those tires? that tire sounds like it should be on something like a stock ranger. with it being an 86 you should have the clearance fo the 33's but as 85351ho said itll depend on how much the susp sags in the front if it does slap some coil spring spacers in there of new coil springs and you should be alright......oh yea the tsl's are a good choice but how much on-road driving are you going to be doing? if its alot your tsl's will wear pretty quick. so check around and ask about tread wear and prices. just a tip for ya man kind of sucks to buy a set of bad *** tires for a ground pounder then after a year or two have to buy a new set. just something to think about.

bfg offers a 33 9.50 15 that will fit with no lift,no cutting, and no rubbing of the radius arm. it is the all terrain tire.

Or you could go with a 2.5" lift, cheaper and tires fit with no problem, check my gallery

my '93 f-150 runs 33's with a set of 1 yr old stock plow package springs up front

the truck sits completely level, as opposed to the nose dive look of most TTB fords... probably about 2" higher in the front than most trucks it age

Don't want to run the super swampers because they'll hit the radius arms.
