tire size

I am looking for other 1997 f150 4x4 owners with the 17 in rims. I just purchased new tires and want to see if there is any mods I will have to do. My new tires are LT285/70r17's. supposedly they are around the same as 33's. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, i only have the 16" rims, but I think I can help. I've got the 285/75r16's on my truck, which work out to be 33" tall, and they fit fine...no rubbing at all....As long as yours aren't much wider, you'll be fine.

Welcome to the forum

You need to have the speedo recalibrated. This can be done with a "tuner" or your local dealer can do it for you.

Question

I have a 99 F150 4x4 with the 17 inch rims- I went to Sears to find out what the largest tire size i could get with the stock suspension was- the guy told me 99's don't come with 17's- Are the 17's really rare on these trucks, not many others seem to have them? And I still don't know how big I can go!

17's were available from 1997-on. They're not at all rare. The tire guy is wrong.
