can someone tell me where I can find a new windshield for my 78. Damn rock went through it. Hopefully I can get a new one. Also, how difficult is it to install myself? Thanks
Call around and get some prices, Last ones I bought were like $140 Installed. I Dont worry about it anymore cause I have Full Coverage on Everything and the Insurance Company Takes care of it. I would not suggest doing it your self. If you Break it its Your Baby But if they Break it its thier Problem. Only way is If you get one at Bone yard for like $25 then Ya you could Give it a whirl/ Lots of Soapy water and a Good Nylon String will get the job done
I'd settle for nothing less than a new one. The used ones always seem to be pitted and suck when you're driving into the sun. I agree with bigbully 'bout installation. Self installs are a PITA. To me, it's worth every penny to have it professionally installed. You should be able to find that windshield at any glass shop. They can order them easily enough and that year truck was common and several years were applicably consistent. I prefer the ones with the tinting at the top of the windshild.
Do you know that the windshield in our trucks weighs about the same as the windshield in a Pontiac Transvan? They just don't build them like they used to.
Does any one know if you can still get the stock winsheild, I think their CARLITE ? At least all the glass in my 78 says carlite. If so what do they cost and installation ? Thanks
I just had the windshield replaced in my '75 F150. They put in a Ford windshield. DIdn't even know they were still available. It doen't say Carlite, but i'm sure you can still get those, too. Just has the Ford emblem at the bottom and something about Laminate Sun-X or something. It's tinted green like the original and the new one has a blue band at the top. Got them to replace the windshield and rear window gasket while they were at it. Mine had the wide chrome moulding and i'd heard they were a pain so I got them to do it. Found out my insurance covered all of it but the deductible ($50) and putting in the new back glass seal I had already purchased($30). The new clear windshield makes a world of a difference.
