Hey there guys. I know I am getting to be a real pain with this problem of mine but it won't go away. As I have posted before, cylinder #8 is missing in my truck. Previously I replaced the COP and that didn't work. Today I went back in and replaced the spark plug yet on my test drive it was still idling rough at stop signs, ect... I have not been able to drive it at 55mph+ yet, but I suspect it will be the same as before I fixed it. I need help here guys. I want to be able to fix this myself, but if I can't do it in the next couple of days the truck is going to have to go to the pros and they will take me to the cleaners. Thanks a lot guys.
I will try and describe it as best I can. Fine on startup, drive to the end of the block, stop at the sign and the miss is really noticable... If I hit the gas hard you don't notice it. This was the same before I changed the plug today... Driving before at high speeds, 45-75mph, the miss was real bad, turn off the OD though and it wasnt so bad, real bad loss of power and fuel effeicency though. At the high speeds the miss was real noticable when cruising, not so much when accelerating.... Don't know what else to tell you. I think I am gonna go through tomorrow and change all the plugs and check all the COPs, but I need this fixed ASAP. Thanks for you help guys, keep it coming!
I had EXACTLY the same symptoms. What I found was corrosion on all the COPs. Regardless of what cylinder(s) the scannner was reading, I removed and cleaned them all. Take the rubber boot off the COP, then remove the spring by twisting and pulling. If you have the same problem as I did, you will notice corrosion on the metal spade connector that the spring connects to inside the bottom of the COP. Clean them with a small file or emory cloth and slightly crimp the end of the spring so it will reconnect tightly. I sprayed a little electrical contact cleaner on them as well...WD-40 will work fine. I have put several hundred miles on since and not a problem. Runs better than ever.
