I am a couple of months away from getting a new truck. (Need a bigger cab for the family) I was leaning towards the Titan but the insurance would kill me (I'm still under 25) . I have never been a Ford fan but the new F150 is one of the best looking vehicles on the road. I just wanted some of you to post some of your pros/cons about your truck. Don't want to start a ****ing contest or a brand war, just want some honest observations. Also, let me know if this is your first Ford.
Ive got 1500 miles on mine so far and all I have are pros for this new truck.
P.S. I also test drove a Titan, couldnt get over the looks of it, but thats my own opinion. The dash and hood seemed very tall, hard to see over. Some things didnt work on the one I drove.
Hey hawkeye680.
I have an 04 Lariat, scab, 4x4 5.4L 3.73 gear, trailer tow pkg. and all other options but moonroof.(don't like moonroof).I have had it for three months and 2600 miles. I have not found many things that i don't like. I have owned 17 ford products. Some were excelent. Some were auto from hell.So far i have not had a failure that needed service on the 04. The only thing i would mention that needs help is the fuel mileage. It is 12 to 16 mpg with the 2 wheel version being a little higher.
Hope this helps. Drive one.
Love mine, it's my 6th Ford truck, never had any unusual problems with any of em. My '90 F 150's got 264k and I drive it every day. As things stand right now I wouldn't buy anything else but thats just me.--Jack
When the lease came due in December on my 2001 SuperCrew, I was thinking seriously about several other trucks. I had previously owned 7 other Fords trucks but have also owned 5 other Ford cars, a Toyota (Supra TT), and a Chevrolet (Corvette). I was interested in the new Nissan Titan and the Toyota Tundra as well as the GM models. After considering them all, I went with a new Ford. I personally didn't care for the exterior styling on the Nissan and the interior was much less appealing than that of the Ford. Frankly, in my opinion, the Nissan was the closest competitor. The Toyota wasn't really available at the time I was looking, particularly in the configuration I wanted. A friend's experiences with a new Chevy kept me away from the GM offerings. Plus, I'm not especially partial to the styling of the Chevrolet.
I purchased my truck on December 30 and, as of today, have logged about 3,500 miles. Pros are: great ride quality, good interior design/layout/ergonomics, good seats (I have the optional leather sport seats), good fit and finish, great improvement in the suspension and steering categories, good to very good audio system (I have the Audiophile setup), good overall engineering and design. Cons are: relatively poor fuel economy, annoying rear window rattle (at least until I get the TSB taken care of), rear differential shudder (again, until I get new diff. clutches installed), and above average but sluggish handling (due to the weight). Overall, I think I made a good decision based on my needs. I can haul a family of four comfortably with a bunch of dirty gear or luggage in the rear or I can pull a car trailer without any problem.
As alway, YMMV. Check them out and see what you think. Then, post your opinions.
In regards to the insurance costs. I too feel your pain of being under 25, but I don't know if opting for the ford will make that big of a difference. Call me a cheater, but I always run my insurance through my dad. My current 2001 SD has an insurance rate of $377 every six months, switching to the new f150 my rate will jump to $450 every six (still in my dad's name). I checked on the rate for the SD in my name and it was $800 every six months, so i can only imagine the new f150 would be even higher.
