Bad Clutch

I was wondering if anyone will help me out with a rather vague question. I own a 1997 F-150 with 102,000 miles. On a very cold MN morning, I awoke to a dead battery. After "jump starting" the battery I realized I couldnt get my truck into gear.

I can put in in gear when the engine is off and and drive around town in 1st gear, but am not able to change gears while engine is running.

Did I snap the clutch cable?

Does anyone have any ideas to what my problem is and what needs to be fixed?

How much should this cost to fix roughly?

Any info would be appreciated, would like to get this truck in today to get a look.

Hi,

When you say you can put it in gear with the truck off and then crank it and drive around does the truck take right off moving even if the clutch is in?

Thanks for reply Lee,

I mean when I start it with it in 1st gear it will take off slowly and i can give it some gas and drive. As Icome to a stop it will stall. So the clutch is "worthless."

Any help on cost and or problems?

Hi,

Well it sounds like the clutch is not releasing. A rebuild is probably needed.

A clutch kit will come with everything you need to do the job. Just don't forget the flywheel. Either have it "turned" or buy a new one. Make sure the kit has a pilot bearing also. If it doesen't then you will need one of these also.
