factory cd player

I have a 98 ranger extracab. I'm thinking of upgrading the stereo. It currently has a cassette player. Is there a decent factory cd unit that will just plug in?

Im not sure have strict the mod are on posting web sites but ill try. Crutchfield sells factory wiring harness, complete instructions and dash fill kits for all of their aftermarket head units. They are custom to you make and model. The wiring harness plus into your factory harness and you just connect the aftermarket cd player to the harness. The dash kit install first and the cd is slid into it for a total clean look. I have a 2004 SD with a kenwood cd/mp3 player in it. It took me 20 min to install.

The short answer is "yes", depending on what you define as "decent". We had a 97 Ranger that came with the stock am/fm/tape and it was about the time that they were starting to offer the am/fm/cd. For not very much money I bought the am/fm/cd (on ebay) only to find out that the one required an amplifier and the other didn't. (one was the higher end, don't remember which). Otherwise, everything is plug compabible. Now I have an 03 Ranger that came w/ am/fm/cd. Beware though, I bought an am/fm/MP3 on ebay from a used stereo dealer who SWORE that it would fit in a ranger. Turns out it doesn't. And he's charging me a restocking fee. Crook.
