But seriously,,, if you are 100% sure, make that call right away. The faster the process can start, the faster those children will get a healthy living and growing environment. And it is a Very Long process.

I strenously disagree. Assualt of any kind is everybody's business. Would you feel that way if you saw this behavior on the street? Or are you one of the people who 'Didn't want to get involved'? I know you are pretty young so you might want to look up Kitty Genovese and see the consequences of attitudes such as yours.
Furthermore what happens if the domestic violence escalates? Both women and children are far more likely to be killed by a family member than anybody else.
I bet you would feel pretty crappy if the kids went to the hospital with brain trauma and ended up vegetables because you didn't do something to stop it. I bet you would even worse if either the wife or kids died.
in many places...if you know and don't report it...you are just as guilty as the one doing the beating.....speak up for those who haven't or can't....nobody deserves to be beat. do you part to stop this!

I believe this to be the antithesis of almost every American belief.
We have a long history of compassion and charity. We have always stood for right. The engraving on the Statue of Liberty says, in part, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.........".
We do not mind our own business while our neighbors and children are beaten. We do not turn the other cheek while injustices are suffered by others.
if i would do anything i would go over to the house when i heard it and see what i could do. but im not making any phone calls and getting mixed up in that legal mess.
ahhh....the new American way....just don't get involved regardless of the costs.
I'm amazed when I watch shows that show the reality of police trying to find witness to a crime and nobody wants to get invovled...they would rather the criminal remain free and able to strike again than to take some time to tell what they know or to take action to prevent injustice.
and we wonder why things are in the shape they are.

Okay, this is the attitude I was hoping for (NOT!) Really this is so irritating to me. I am constantly hearing people criticize George Bush for doing the very thing that many of you just said you would do. (The comparison, in my mind, is just as you are head of your household, George plays that same role only on a larger scale with the whole country being his household, and his protecting the innocent of Iraq not being any different than us helping the neighbor lady who's husband beats on her. ) I get so darn tired of the attitude, "well if it doesn't affect ME, then I don't get involved". That can only go on for soo long until YOU are directly involved and at that point, you may not be able to do anything about it. Just as some day, Sadam could have been here kicking OUR butts just because we refused to do something about it now. George wasn't even elected yet when the terrorists were planning the 9/11 attack. What would you, if you're one of those people criticizing George, have done differently? I never hear what the "right" way to handle the situation would be, its just a bunch of complaining. I personally think George is the best President we've had in a long time! Go, Mr. Bush!!!
