Same here Bob. It appears we agree on some things, but not all, eh? Actually, that's more than with my wife - we don't agree on anything!
As far as your post, I can't verify those posters' experience. I can only go by factual information and my own experiences. I have used Fram filters for many years in a variety of vehicles and I have never had this problem. Therefore, to me at least, it doesn't exist.
I think there's an awful lot of anti-Fram hype here and on other boards that is not entirely justified. I'm not saying they're the best filters in the world, but I do think they are okay.
I was never really convinced of that syphon phenomenon either.
Since I have installed this Audi filter, I don't recall hearing
any valve clatter on cold start-ups. But I wasn't looking out for it
either - so I might be mistaken.
Sorry about jumping into an interesting conversation, thought this was something worth looking at.
CARQUEST FILTERS INTRODUCES
Post it in the your search line, makes for some thoughtful reading. I'm going to look for more and ask an oil filter company why?

Not exactly the most convincing evidence, Bob.
Here is another one Oppy.....Did I tell you the story of trying Fram
one time on a Volvo 1800E? It only had half the normal oil pressure, and it back to the same oil pressure when I put a Volvo
filter back on it...that fixed me on Fram!!
I read your examples and dont get it they are not very good for example one of them they where talking about how the anti drain valve keeps oil in the top of the engine??oil in the top of the engine returns through a different path than the oil filter. The other one i dont think the dealer would have gone through the trouble of replacing a set of lifters if it was only a oil filter problem

In the example given, they were talking about the pressurized
path past the oil filter, NOT the return path!!
How are cam lobes oiled on an overhead cam engine.do they get oil sprayed on them.would their be oil laying in the head for them to pick until pressure is putting oil on them, ive never had overhead cam engine apart so wondering
There are a lot od different designs for lubricating cam lobes in an OHC or DOHC engine. I know Mercedes uses a jet of oil, sprayed directly onto each cam lobe. Most of the valve train noise on a "dry" start is due to hydraulic lifters not pumping up with oil.
Hydraulic lifters run with a ZERO "lash" (clearance) when they are pressurized with oil.

Ps. Bob what spark plugs do you recommend for that mercedes... j/k
I use Bosch in my 190E 2.6, plugs aren't needed in my 300D.
Bosch run well in a Mercedes, but do not run well in a Ranger!!!
