As recommended earlier on this site, I plan on decking my heads .04 to try to get a little more compression out of the 416 c.i. It was also recommended I use steel headgaskets. I was hoping I could get some suggestions as to which brand of gasket would be the best to use to help raise compression, yet get a good seal.
Also, my truck is a 1973 F250, 4x4, 4 speed. I was wondering if anyone has ever notched the frame support directly under the front of the cab allowing the engine and transmission to be slid in as a unit. If so, did this seem to weaken the support of the truck. I use the truck strictly for truck pulling so I need it to be as durable as possible.
Hi Jamey,
Can't help you on the head gasket, but the cross-member that you are looking to notch is bolted in place on my '74 hi-boy, and assume the same for your '73? Notching sounds like a really bad idea, especially since it isn't welded or riveted, and even then I would never consider notching a brace on a truck that you are using hard. JMHO!
Steve
Jamey, I'd try Dennis at DSC Motorsport for the steel shim head gaskets- I think he has ( or can get ) some reproductions of the .017 thick factory stuff. DF
