Other sources I'd try would be Dennis Kirk, Hi Performance Engineering, (both on the internet) or your local snowmobile wrecker.
Chain cases are pretty much identical on all models of each manufacturer, so they are largely interchangeable. The exceptions would be newer mountain sleds.
I hear ya on that one. I got a 01 skidoo mxz600. I'll be getting reverse next year. This year my new toy for it was electric start and a 1.25 track instead of the current track with 3/4 on it.
My biggest thing I hate is getting stuck and having to undig it. I also bought one of them portable winches. rnventions The whole box fits right up front by the belt on my sled. If I took it out of the box it would fit in the trunk. I just field tested it monday in some really wet greasy snow. Worked good. A bit slow but it sure does help. 3 or 4 people with ya would still be better. But I do often ride alone so I need it. rnventions is also found on ebay.
The ski doo I rode when I switched to reverse it would almost kill the motor then fire right back up without the starter, How does it work I almost thought it made the motor run backwards, but I assume it must just take the tension off by slowing the motor down to shift something in the chaincase
Actually otto, it does make the engine run backwards Ski-doo has done that for a few years, and polaris has started doing that. Arctic Cat still does mechanical reverse but will probably have that soon. The only advantage is less weight as I understand.
Reverse is not ment to be used for getting unstuck, it is not very effective. It's mainly used for mobility and is very handy. Ever since I had reverse on the sled I bought in 98 I've had it on all the sleds we've owned (my father and I).
it just kicks it back the other way thats amzing , it is great being able to pull up to things and just backing out, instead of trying to turn them around by lifting
Funny story by a friend of mine this winter. He installed a reverse kit on his sled. Went to try it out while standing... the sled shot backwards and he went forwards, and his right leg pinned the throttle. Luckily, he saved it.
