Am to pick up my first pickup ever!! -- F250 SD, 4x4 Crew, SB, 6.0 diesel this week (coming from 98 Grand[pa] Marquis)... (Excited to say the least!!, no more ****-sagged pulling snowmobiles!!).
Anyway... this XLT HAS remote keyless entry, but NO keypad on door. Does anybody know if this is an "add-on-able" item at dealer or aftermarket??
(I currently use my keypad VERY often, and don't want to have to 'plant' a second keyFOB somewhere under a bumper...).
I talked to my dad today and he said you have to have the complete assembly. The main unit is not able to accept that keypad. Another For Marketing Ploy!
i suppose i could hide a key someplace, or more likely just plant another key fob inside the bumper (tho worried about longterm exposure to elements). am sure i can snake a few extra key fobs from dearborn and have programmed w/ an NGS... yes, would save some bucks, but wanted to got the 'right' route first. thx. for info.

As I understand it, this new unit is completely wireless and works just like your key fob transmitter. It just has to be programmed and your existing keyless entry system will recognize it.
The System is not system 6 wireless unit wich means the setup is different. I will find out what model it really is. Different years have different setups. EX: My 1998 Explorer has system 3
Yes they do sell a key pad for most Fords! I just purchased one for my 2002 F250 from Ford Accessories for $119.00. It is wireless: all you do is stick on the side of you vehicle and program it with your other remotes. The entire set-up takes about 2 minutes. Hope this helps!
I put the remote keypad on my '03 F250 PSD three weeks ago with no problem.
As long as you have power locks with the remote key fobs you can add the keypad. The keypad is wireless and acts like one of your key fobs. It just sticks to the door with adhesive. Programming is simple. All the directions are included. Remember to have both of your key fobs with you when you "re-program" the truck. You have to enter the 5 digit code on the new remote and press one button on each key fob during the programming process so all remotes are recognized by the system.
This is one of my disappointments with Ford that goes hand-in-hand with the "fit and finish" on our trucks. I had a 96 explorer (XLT) and traded it for my 2000 SD maxed out Lariat package four years ago. For some reason (and yes, I know its a truck but...) Ford does not put all the lickies and chewies on the trucks for the same option packages across different vehicles (e.g. F series vs Explored/Expedition). The keypad is one of them. Thanks team for pointing out that I can get one that I can easily put in; I'm with you Dinebito. Used mine all the time when I had the Exploder er I mean Explorer. Regards.
I agree 100% with the post above. Even Excursions come with the key pad but not a loaded F Series. I used my key pad all the time when I had an Explorer.
Anyway, how long do you think the battery will last? Same as the FOB about 5 plus years? How good is the adhesive? Will this $130 unit fall off (or get stolen) in a few years. I do miss the keypad when hunting/fishing/cycling. Might have to buy the after market unit. Thanks for the info guys.
The very newest '04 models have integrated keypads into the doors. The early '04s have a more bulky keypad that isn't flush with the door. The bulky keypad can be purchased at a dealer, or at www.fordaccessoriesstore.com for around $139. I bought one for Christmas and added it to my '03 F350. Its completely wireless, no drilling and very easy setup.
