"Lead" Question

I was wondering if it is possible to chrome over the old school method of using lead as a body filler? Or would a chrome place use lead to fix something if you took it to be rechromed?

Thanks

I don't know about lead but I have seen them demonstrating at carlisle how they fill in the pits with what looked like silver solder?

Yeah I was curious because my original front bumper has deep scars and I was hoping to one day be able to rechrome it

Guess I need to contact a chrome shop

Thanks for the help

The plater has to acid dip the bumper to remove the chrome, nickel, copper.
Lead will contaminate the bath and he will cut your gonads off.

I use silver solder to repair pot metal, be certain it is non lead bearing.

I've had several bent bumpers rechromed, including a 57 Bird rear. The plater repaired the bent metal before replating. The bumper, when returned, looked as good as new.

Carl is right.

After the acid bath (also known as "stripping"), Large holes are fixed by welding. Some shops use a two part epoxy which is both conductive, and platable for filling pits.
