straight pipes

I have a 90 F-150 with a 302. Will straight pipes give a little better gas milage and more power while giving off some good sound?

Yea, you will get better milage and more power, and you will get ALOT of sound if you go with true straight pipes!!!!!!!

How loud will it be if the pipes run out of the cat converter?

Did you mean without the cats? Im a bit lost, because you would have to run through the cat to get the exhaust out. Maybe Im just not reading it right. If you meant without the cat, you will get a louder exhaust note (the cat acts very similar to a muffler).

it seems to me people get the idea of straight pipes confused.

straight pipes means no mufflers, no catalytic converters. not just no mufflers.

Sorry about being confusing. I am new at this. What would the sound be like with a cat but no muffler?

It will probably sound kind of raspy. Most cats internal ceramics are shaped like a honeycomb, so there is no real restriction (ie baffles in a muffler) to change the sound. I still prefer a muffler exhaust note to a straight pipe or cat.

I have a 2000 f150 5.4 and ran it from the cats back with no mufflers and i think it sounds great. Plus it was only a 100 bucks with chrome tips. Gives a nice idle sounds but when u get on it everyone knows it without it being to loud.

It will be pretty quite with the glasspacks on it, I know on my bronc with dual cats and no muffler it just more annoying, and with one cat and 3in pipes out in front of the back tires it was alittle better but not much.

I had that on my F-150 back when I had the 302 in it.. stock resonator on the front, no cat. 3" pipe from the resonator back to the rear axle, then a y pipe and 2 1/4" exiting under the bumper.

It had a little raspy sound to it when you go on it, and crackled alot when you let off. However, it was really, really, really quiet. Inside the cab you could't hear it with the windows down.

The 351W in there now with headers, and 2 tractor mufflers sounds way better.. but is also a good 10 times louder..

glasspacks are quiet? Hmmmm tell my bronco that, lol. I just got true duals with dual 18 inch glasspacks and 3 inch chrome tips put on my 302. Yeah its quiet when ideling or at cruising speeds, but it wakes up the town when u get into it. And no loud rumble on the inside, its very awesome. Ive been running glasspacks for 7 yrs on everything ive owned except my 61, and its always an awesome sound.

Glasspacks quite?....lol That would be a first. I'm running a Flowmaster 40 series on my truck...and I'm pretty satisfied with it. Would a 12" chrome tip make any difference in the sound?
