Bought my 2000 7.3 in Dec 02 with 35,000 miles. In the last year we've done allot of travelling to Big Air dog jumping events. Now have 72,000 miles.
My question is - does an oil analysis done now tell you anything that is reflective of what has happened before the current oil change? I recently switched to Rotella synthetic. At 58,000 I started using Rotella 15-40, changing every 4500 miles. Prior to that the Ford dealer did all changes at intervals below 5000 miles.
if this helps i know someyone that uses 15/40 rottelaT in his and he has over 1 million miles on itchanges his oil every 4k miles= he also uses duralube, that why i started using duralube.
Oil analysis is a way of following the wear of the engine without taking it apart. They have to have a sample to start with in order to do the following. They can test for all the parts that make up the engine all the way from the block to the piston rings. The sample will also show too much fuel mixed in the oil and antifreeze presence. Should you use some type of additive to make the slicker, thats up to YOU. This will certainly start the opening of the so called "can of worms" and individual thoughts about oils and additives. Good luck and enjoy the reading. Bill
