This is stupid....

Kid Rock defiling the flag?....please.
I didint even bother to read the "history lesson" above- I know perfectly well what our flag is supposed to stand for- not that it always has- I know about Betsy Ross and the Thirteen Colonies, etc, etc.
Kid Rock was showing his patriotism- plain and simple and any dim wit could see that. Why make an issue out of his wearing the flag like it's some sort of holy icon that requires religious reverance? There is a difference between being patriotic and showing respect to our flag, and showing SO MUCH "respect" for it, that its akin to a form of worship.

What would you say if he came out wearing the Iranian flag? Would you say he was disrespecting it? Of course not, you'd accuse him of being a traitor to his country for showing reverance for to it. Well think of it along the same lines and guess what?- he was showing patriotism.

The flag means nothing anyway if the true ideals of being an American are dead. Too many people pay lip service to the flag, and then go to church to pay lip service to God, only to start screwing their best friends wife behind his back all over again on Monday....you people need to get real.

P.S. Ranger Bob,

I really hate to say this, but it sounds to me like your a bit liberal with that mouth if you actually do as you yourself say you do- I'd never disrespect someone for what they wear- not even the kids who go around with their pants buckled around their thighs- I would be EXTREMELY irritated if somone like you had the NERVE to come and insult me for wearing what I like....and I'll leave the rest to your imagination.

Isn't tasteless patriotism better than none? Remember that disgraceful James Brown number and all those costumes in that Rocky flick?LOL Kid Rock's heart's in the right place it's his head that's the problem. Nothin' but bone.

how many would have complained if it was toby keith or hank jr. wearing the flag? probably less. kid rock was the ONLY one to say he was proud to be American, the rest just performed( p.diddy and nelly) or simulated sex acts on stage(j.j.and j.t.). i praise kid rock for this. he is not afraid to be patriotic in his way, which i think is much better than hiding behind flash and flare.

if it were toby keith or hank jr with the flag draped over them, the next military concert they did im sure they would get the message loud and clear when the marines " put a boot in their ***"
the flag as a naional symbol deserves and needs more people to respect it...

As to people being offended to me making remarks about my saying that using the flag is an article of clothing, let em come back at me i aint worried about it
ya know years ago when i was little if you wore something out in the street lke that or you did something out in the street that was offensive or the cops brought ya home you got your butt handed to you by your parents. seems to me the whole country was alot better off then. maybe if the whole country stopped being so complacent we could go back to where we were in the fifties and sixties when America was alot better off

Just so everyone knows, Kid Rock performed for US troops in Kuwait and Iraq as part of a USO tour.

He is unabashedly pro-American.

His heart is definitely in the right place. I see nothing wrong with what he did.

You mentioned it before I did. He has been in Iraq putting on impromptu shows for the troops. Being in the military myself and being older I have NO problem with what kid rock did.

Agreed. I'm 47 and saw Kid Rock in concert at the Silverdome New Year's Eve 2000 with my son. He was on the bill with Ted Nugent and I'll tell you, Ted wouldn't perform with any anti-American singers. Being a local boy, we hear a lot more Kid Rock news than most, I guess. He even filmed a very pro-American video about 2 miles from my house at a nearby park.
He has a "bad boy" image because that's what sells to kids nowadays.
Patriotism for younger kids isn't the same as partiotism in past generations. You'd be very surprised at just how patriotic today's kids are. I'm aware because I have a 17, 19 and 21 year old. I'd say they are as far away from hippies as any generation has ever been. If nothing else, 9-11 has galvanized a lot of young people and made them overtly patriotic.

I like Kid Rock also, and took the show as being pro U.S.

Guess I see the flag so many different ways these days that it didn't even get my attention.

Now the Democrats (anti Bush) up the street that are flying the flags upside down- that's annoying.

im known for strongly supporting the confederate flag, but yes i also support the american flag. i may not like the government but i love my country.

i dont see a problem with anyone wearing a flag, its just like someone wearing their favorite teams jersey, but did he really need to shred it? thats the part i see as disrespectful. personally i hate kid rock. i cant stand rapper wannabes that try to cross into country.

i agree with 99ranger for the most part. i didnt see the halftime show or any of the game for that matter but from the sounds of it, its horrible. its sad what this country has come to. im scared of what its gonna be like in the future, im only 17 so im gonna be stuck livin through it.

On the plus side

The Patriots won!!

I gotta tell you Kid Rock, stinks.. As well as alot of others that are so popular now. I mean if 90 % of the pop Artists that are out there singing now, were to try out for american Idol, with no music, Simon would shred them. I mean they have no Voice. they just cant sing.

Flying the flag upside down is a international distress signal, which apparently the Democrats feel the country is in. Much more patriotic than getting the flag soaked with your no talent sweat, not being able to comply with simple rules of flag etiquette. Can't kid rock read? Apparently it is acceptable to be a patriotic dimwit if you're a popular entertainer. Good intentions don't justify the disrespect. If they truly respected the flag and what it stands for, I would hope they'd care enough to treat it with the respect it is due.

They aren't trying to sing. That's why they call it rapping.

Oh yeah, the Patriots may have won, but the Panthers covered the spread! LOL

This subject in general is a very passionate one to some. I, personally, am offended by the use of the Flag in ways it was not intended to be used. Others are not. That's your right not to be just as it is my right to be.

Here at my station at work, we have a flag on the wall that was flown at Iwo Jima a few years ago on the anniversary of the US Marine Corps in our honor. They can only fly the American flag 4 times each year there. To me, there can be little greater honor to em and my co-workers.

Hey, could it be that this symbol represents my right to be offended and your right not to be? Maybe that is something to think about next time someone is using the US Flag as a rag.
