Exclamation Injector Control Module

A funny thing happened to me on the way home from New Hampshire last weekend, and I was curious to see if anyone else has had a similiar experience.

My Truck began to act like I was have a frozen fuel problem, basically losing power on the upgrade, and eventually, just coming to a stop. However, it would idle for long periods with no problem. But when I got back on the road I would not even get another mile before the problem returned. I found a place to get Anti-Gel additives, and after that didn't do the trick I tried a little Kerosene. All to no avail. I ended up having it towed to a Ford Dealer where the mechanic replaced the ICM and the Crank Sensor, and that seems to have done the trick. But at 1300 dollars, I hope that this sensor doesn't have a track record of regularly needing to be replaced. I asked what could cause this to happen, and how I can avoid it in the future, and was told that the ICM was in a location where it could get water in it, and that may have been the cause, but I sure hope that it is more durable than that, or this truck won't be of much use to me.

The injector control module on the 7.3s does not seem to have a history of problems. You just got lucky.
The electronic problem areas on the 7.3s seem to have been the cam position sensor (CPS), which many guys keep a spare along with, the electronic go-pedal assemblies can go intermittent and the alternators seem to be somewhat of an issue (I've have two alternators replaced under warranty so far).

I see you're from Maryland (?). You were probably suffering from fuel gelling from the cold snap. When you place fuel additives in the tank, you wont feel the effect immediately and if you are already getting gelled fuel problems, you wont even get the effect til everything warms up, which is probably what happened while you were at the dealership getting the module and cps changed. Enjoy the winter and pay attention when you fuel up, make sure they are not receiving "new " fuel in their storage tanks while you are fueling.
