My wifes 94 bronco has a 351w and it is getting up there in milage so i was wondering if anyone has ever put a 7.3 L powerstroke in a bronco. I have my eyes out for a totaled 94-97 as i would like to swap in the whole drive line, and to make sure i have all the little extras i might need...
anyway my main question is does it fit? i assume it will as the sheet metal looks identical to an f250... does it clear the cross member underneath? also where would i go about finding motor mounts for this little guy? would i have to fab them? i would like bolt in but... i also really want a powerstroke...
also some general questions.. can i use my current fuel tank setup, i know it is different from a pickup, but the diesel is going to need the return line... one other question is can you bolt a 10.25 from an f250 onto a half ton with out relocating the spring perches?
i dunno man, that would be a pretty involved swap. kikwear is right about the weight of the motor. you would have to do somthing abotu the front end because the broncos have coil springs that are ment for small blocks. the diesle<however you spell it, weighs about 1200 pounds w/out the tranny. i think. thats why all the f250s and 350s have front reverse arch leaf's. hope i could help at all
yeah if u got the $$$ and the time, do it. it'll probably be a custom job so i'd expect there to be a lot custom fab work. but above all- keep that bronco on the road!!!!! -wb

there might be a way to use teh ps front end and use the reverse arch springs that are on those trucks. there might be a way to mount those pring to the bronco frame if you weld mounts and go through that process
The frame is going to need some reinforcing due to the amount of torque te diesel puts out. But taking the F-250 chassis and shortening it might take care of that, but again time and money!!
Keep that Bronco off the road!!!
yeah off the road is better, i concur. if u do the shortened F250 frame look into making the beefier rims from the f250 work, 'cause that'd look sweet and you'd be recycling ford parts.

The front springs aren't really a problem. You can call someone like Benz Springs and tell them what you want. I bought a set of extra firm for an anticipated winch install. It was no problem for them.
We have an 02 F550 at work w/powerstroke. The thing has a utility bed and a knuckleboom. Weighs in at just under 15K# empty. It's still touquey. I've wondered what it would do in my Bronco. I could gear the thing way up.
I wonder about the oil pan - it takes 15 quarts.
Sounds like a fun project!
You could use the springs and "k" member (crossmember) from a 2wd F250 7.3, as the 4x4 F150/Bronco TTB beams would bolt right in. The 6.9's and early 7.3 F250 4x4's came standard with the 3850 Dana 44HD front axle with the 4600lb Dana 50 as optional and if I rememeber right the spring rate of the F250HD 2wd coils is not alot less than the leafs but am not sure.
The 10.25 is a direct bolt in. And if you find a F250 Dana 44HD 3850 front axle you can use the steering knukles out (the F150/Bronco use the same ball joints and axle joints) for matching 8-lug with the 3/4 ton brakes.
I am sure it could be done with enough parts, but I would not work the front-end very hard or hang anything extra up there. As the F150/Bronco frames are 3/16" thick or possible a little thinner, but the F250/350's are a full 1/4" thick.
WHAT A COOL THREAD watching this one with much enthusiasm, I have an old suburban (I know I know) with a tired 6.2 chevy diesel in it and would love to put something bigger in it....a PS in a bronco, how cool would that be, About as cool as a PS in an old suburban.....
