I have a 98 XLT Explorer, I went to change the spark plugs and they were seemingly welded into the heads. I managed to get a couple out using a cheater bar. The rear drivers side plug snapped off at the head. I tried using an easy-out to pull it, and snapped that in half as well. The Ford Store mechanic told me he has heard a number of complaints about this sort of thing, that and the attempts to try and change the rear passenger side spark plug. I was told that if I didnt use Ford spark plugs that they would run to hot and weld themselves to the head. Anyone else have this sort of issue and/or idea on removing a stuck plug threads? Mechanic told me I'd have to take the heads off to remove the threads, just not sounding like alot of fun.
The best way to get to the rear passenger plug is thru the wheel well. If you can get a straight shot at it, try using another easy out. Last ditch effort is to drill it and install a heli-coil kit. As one of the previous posters said, always use anti-seize when installing plugs. I know that doesn't help you at all now. Good luck.
If you can get the broken eazy-out removed, then try again with another one, but heat the area around the plug first. Use a propane torch, and be very careful about fluid lines, wiring harnesses etc., and especially fuel lines. SAFETY FIRST!
