Not safe, even in a mud pit. That's why they are so hard to find. Nobody want's to be liable for the unsafe practice of using the wrong equipment on a vehicle.

My 78 F250 2wd has single piston calipers. The transition to dual piston calipers is determined by GVWR. There is no way a 15" will fit on my truck. My 16" wheels barely clear the calipers. My truck was built with 16.5" wheels.

IMO wheel spacers are very dangerous.

I guess I should have said, that it wouldn't be advised to switch from dual piston to single piston calipers. Most single piston calipers are designed for 1/2 ton trucks.

It is a GVWR thing, As the truck weight and hauling capacity go up then bigger brakes with more power are required. That is one of the reasons I hate to see overloaded vehicles. Just because a truck can carry the weight or tow it does not mean it is safe or that it will stop. A vehicle is designed with certain sized suspension components as part of a system with fixed limits.
