6.8 or 5.4 ??

Looking to buy a F-250 Supercab but cannot decide on which gas engine. I think I want a V-10. If you drive it sensibly can you get 15 mpg out of it, or will the V8 even get that much?? I was thinking 3.73 LS gears for either engine. Or maybe 4.10 for the 5.4??

I am ignorant about all this so thanks for the information.

Drive all the combos of engine/gears that you can. Decide which one YOU like the best and meets your needs/wants. Obviously, the 5.4L will get slightly better mileage than the 6.8L when geared the same- but only by a couple of MPGs. Both are great engines IMO.

If you're going to tow a lot, V10, especially with a supercab. If you're just using it for the daily commute, 5.4V8. And if you're buying a Superduty and not going to work it, I heard the half-tons are nice.

I've got thr V-10 Reg.Cab 6spd.maunual 3.73 LS axle.I get 13mpg. mixed driving and tend to use the throttle a bit.I like the power that the V-10 makes.I don't ever hear anyone complaining about too much power .

Big Green 99 f-250 4x4

I got 16mpg driving to Tennessee with my 5.4 auto. It dropped to 12.5-13 as an average daily driver. I have the 4.10 gears and now that I have the Gibson exhaust, I love the power and my mpg's jumped up to 14.5 daily driving. Cheap gains if you drive alot. As for power, I towed a 12,000lb boat 200 miles at 70 mph. I don't tow that often or I'd have the v10. But for occasional towing and more than adequeate lead-foot power the 5.4 works well. As for the half-tons, they look woosy. Gas mileage or not, they don't get that much better mileage and the resale and looks of the SD are a whole lot tougher.

Love Always,
Tuna

6.8 or 5.4 ??

Yesterday I drove a Supercab 5.4 w/ 3.73 gears, and a Crew Cab 6.8 w/ 3.73 gears. Both felt peppy with the V10 feeling noticeably stronger. The overhead console display showed what MPG the truck was gettin and it never went over 4.8 mpg. No wonder the salesman kept turning it off. I still cannot fully decide on which engine. My truck now has a 4.9 I6 and doesn't have any punch at all. And I miss my old Firebird that had a 400 ci. That had a lot of punch.

And, it seems like it would be cheaper to get a V10 than to get the 5.4 and spend extra money on aftermarket stuff trying to get more punch out of it.

Yup, $600.00 up front for a heck of a lot more motor. If that's not enough, there's always the Bank's Powerpack!

you get the V-10 and you'll never be wishing you had when it comes time to haul, be it a load or a**. get the V-8, which does a surprisingly good job in such a large and heavy truck, and you will almost always 'want' for that extra 75 lb ft of torque

I wouldn't pay much attention to the computer.New engines usually hog quite a bit of gas the first few hundred miles.Actual fuel mileage results usually occur after 3000mi.of loosening up.They also run stronger after break in.
