you're right. i just got back from the auto store and the $100 converter only put out half the power i would need.
I'm with Go Aweigh2452....
I like the idea of having air horns, but because of the upfront expense and my lack of use of the compressor, I wonder how it would work to just use a tank and each time you fill up your tank at the station, fill up the air tank too.
my other question about this is:
what happens to the air tank if your in an accident? seems to me like your a bomb on wheels. I'd hate to be in a minor accident where the bottom of my truck blew up because of the air tank....don't know what kind of damage it would do, but worth a thought?
no....I just wanna make sure in my fun that I'm not putting my family at a large risk...to blow someone else out of their seat is one thing, to be in an accident and get blown out of mine is another
I bulit mine with a used caddy air ride pump 18" of 4 " pvc a presure switch from ace hardware. I'm also using a toro sprinkler system eletric vavle to blow the horn
I've got Nathan P1 P2 P4 air horns off a trolley.Very loud, havent installed them yet but hooked them up to my air compressor.WOW I think I lost some hearing.
I have honked mine at cops a few times and been pulled over every time. However, I have only done so when confronted with a situation when the cop was doing something stupid or dangerous without lights or sirens, for instance making a u-turn when I was way to close for no other reason than he wanted to go the other way. There is nothing in The Calfornia Vehicle code which prohibits horns that are loud. If you have them, I say hook em' up. I am of the opinion that most people hear the horns but don't care.Usually they go about what they are doing(usually illegal) knowing they will get honked at and not caring. What I have simply forces the issue a bit.

where do you find something like that and how much did it cost?
Got them from a friend at work.He is a mechanic on trollies for the transportation authority. So i don't know how much they cost.Sometimes they sell them on ebay. They can be pricy from what i see.
If your going for all out loud you could probably get a Nathan P5 off of a diesel locomotive. I dont know where exactly you would get one but i'll check into it and report back. Only bad thing is it would probally take like a 100 gallon compressor or somethin
I have horns from Northern Tool(they have a website). Kit is pretty complete, yu get the on/off regulator valve for the compressor, elecrtic solenoid valve for the horns, air lines/fittings, wire/connectors, tank, horns and compressor. I have the tank and compressor mounted in the cavity behind the bumper and the horns are mounted midship in the frame. the only different thilng on install is I ran a 30A relay so the compressor runs off battery but is ignition enabled. I have purchased "train horns" from the truk parts dealer but need more capacity, gotta go see the air bag guys.
