I was wondering if there is any way to add some warning lights to my truck. Like a maybe a door open light, low gas light, and maybe a check guage light. I think the only one you could easily do would be the door open light, just tap into the dome light. I don't think it would be too easy to add a low gas light. And it would probably be difficult to add a light for when you oil or temp guage was reading high or low? You tell me. thanks!
The door switch is wired with a common wire to all door switches, so you would need another switch or add some relay logic to seperate the switches on each door for a seperate indication if each door is open. You may notice also that the door is pretty much free from the latch before the dome light comes on anyway.
The low gas light would need something additional in the gas tank, or an electronic circuit box added that would monitor the voltage level to the sending unit and send out an alarm.
Possibly the easiest ones to do would be the guages. Just go buy a oil light switch and a coolant light switch from a car that had idiot lights instead of guages(I am thinking all trucks had guages?). Buy two dash light sockets that are plastic with a seperate ground wire. Run the hot wire from each bulb to a switched 12 volts, and run the negative wire from the oil light to the oil switch sensor you installed on the engine block, and run the negative of the temp light to the temp switch you installed on the engine.
