I purchased an 2000 XLT PSD 4X4 - It didn't come with a remote, but was wondering how to tell if it came from the factory with one. Does not have a keypad on the door.
If it doesn't have one can I add one fairly easy?
i brought ny 2002 f350 in to have a remote starter installed. While there I had them install a keyless entry with remote. paid about 300 bucks for it all installed
Yes there is a way to tell....I cant remember the exact procedure But You take and put the keys in the ignition and TURN ON OFF ON OFF ON OFF....Its something like 5 or 8 times....If it has the module the doors will unlock.... Thats the correct procedure BUT I just cant remember the number of times to turn it on and off.....
The only way to tell if you have a factory keyless entry is to look and see if you have factory installed door lock/unlock relays. If you don't, then you will have to go with a aftermarket system. I have a Valet keyless entry/remote start in mine and it works quite well. If you do have the door lock/unlock relays then you can go to a ford dealer and see about getting the remote for your truck. Putting a keyless entry in does require some electrical knowledge so if you don't know what you are doing just bring it somewhere to be done.
BTW you can install a keypad on the door very easily. they have ones programmed for you application that run on batterys and attach to the door with sticky tape
