Explorer Rotor Removal
over the past month it has been making a loud whirring noise when i apply the brakes hard. It seems like its coming from the passenger side. So i figured its probly time to change the brakes. So i removed the rotors and cleaned off the grease and saw this:
this is the passenger side, its has a fine groove feel to it.
here is the driver side:
this one is smooth.
i have no idea what you even call this part, or what its supposed to look like but it worries me when they dont look the same.
Is this normal and if not, what should i do.
thanks in advanced
well i took out all the bearings and cleaned them and re greased them with a synthetic grease. I did notice that the driver side did have much less grease compared to the passenger side. I dont know what exatcly to look for, but all the bearings looked okay and moved freely. I also had the rotors turned and added ceramic brake pads. Took it for a test drive last night and didnt notice the whirring, but ill keep an ear out for it. I wasnt sure how much grease to put on the bearings, im kinda worried i didnt put enough. Wondering if i should open up the dust cover , remove the first bearings and pump it full with grease. Would that be a good idea?
And if the whirring starts again i will try replacing the bearings.
