I know I presented this on the board before and several responded that it was normal but I wanted to bring it up again just for my own piece of mind. When I clutch, just before shifting, primarily 1st to 2nd and 2nd to third I hear this brief backlashing sounding clang. Can anyone explain exactly what this is so I can understand what's taking place when this happens. Knowing mechanically what is happening may allow me to improve my shifts, not that I need to , and again, is this normal? Will it it improve with breakin? Sorry for the redundant question and thx again

Rich, Wouldn't this have been greased, or should I say "allegedly greased" from the factory? Truck has less than 200 miles on her. Thx for your response.
Kirk
Mine is a 02 F250 4x4 with just turned 3,000 miles i just did mine this weekend because i haven't had time to do it until know1
Yes their supposed to be greased but they were very skimpy with it!
at least mine had very little on it.
I suggest you take it in and have them do it unless you have the special tool for those pain in the butt clamps for cv joints.i happen to to have it.
All they had to do was put a zerk on it ,an it would have been easier
make sure you mark the drive shaft to put back in on the same place it came out from.oh also clean all the splines real good to get the crud out
