My 86 F150 I6 4x4 with 4 speed just died while going into 3rd gear, I pull over and the engine turns, but won't fire. Need some help.
Before anyone responds this is what I have done recently. All Brand New.
Battery, Battery Cables, Starter,Starter Cable, Starter Solenoid. Pick up coil, ICM, Distributor Cap, Plugs, Wires, Coil, Coil Harness, New 1bbl Carb, Fuel Pump, Fuel Line from the tank, Belts, Upper and Lower Radiator Hose, and rebuilt the brake system completely, and I mean completely! I did have a fuseable link problem, but it only effected the lights and other accessory stuff.
I had it towed to my mechanic, and he said he went out to start it and it fired like nothing was wrong. I should be thankful, but I take that news with cautious optimism. Any Ideas?
definetly sounds like a bad Ignition Module, very common problem on fords. They get hot they shut everything down. They cool off(on the tow to the mechanic), than they work fine until they get too hot again.
I tested it with a Ford Special Tool before I installed it. It was a small LED with a plug, a clip and a battery. Per the instructions it tested fine. Any other Ideas?
At this point with all you've had replaced. Not really. Maybe you could hook it up to a code retriever and see if it has any codes stored in the computer. Might be a help, who knows. Sorry man.
Not trying to be smart, but how are you battery cable connections? I have seen cables not tightened enough cause problems. Not saying that this is it, but its a quick check.
Have you placed silicone grease in all the places it is supposed to be ? on the spark plug tips, the rotor except on the very top, and perhaps on the back of the module.. for heat transfer ?
