I just wanted to let everyone know that I failed Emissions yesterday. I live in Phoenix AZ and I have a 1968 Camper Special with a 390. The Carbon Monoxide at idle was 6.45% and should have been under 5.00%.
I did some research on the board and decided to do the following:
Checked Points
New Plugs
Super Unleaded
Removed Air Filter
Turned the mixture screw in all the way in on my 2bbl Autolite
Cranked up the idle
I passed with 2.79%. I drove 300 feet and adjusted everything back to normal.

Also, I just bought a used hood and latch from the boneyard for $50!
Congrats! I was as happy as you when my truck passed because it hadn't been tested in a long time and i had done my first carb rebuild on it. I left the settings alone and barely passed.
That's great! I thought California emmisions was tough. Any vehicle here that is older than 30 yrs. doesn't need to go through emissions anymore. And any vehicles that still needs to go through testing only have to do it every other year. New vehicles get tested after the 4th year or something like that.
i need to do emissions on my 69 but the thing is that the ol' boy who had it never did cause it wasnt required. so i had done alot of work on this thing and i dont know if it will pass, i have a 390 still stock bore ,i aslo have a performer intake an edlebrock carb 750 if i remember right with two different cams ive been told that the 530'lift i had in it before was too big so i put back in my 510'lift one in and tryin to get it ready to pass. i was told to use a certin amount of rubbin alcohol in my fuel and advance my timin' and put new plugs and wires. my truck dont have any cats underneithe the truck neither.
Do you still need to add cats if that was not orginal equipment? CAts weren't used in 69's as far as I know. If you have the edelbrock carb. You can change metering rods to lean it out if it doesn't pass.
