i have a duraspark ii ignition system. the other night i left my key in the on position while b.s. ing with a friend, for about an hour. now my truck will not start!!!!! i replaced the ignition box on the fenderwell and also replaced the distributor! what else could it be. i have also checked all of the supply wires and everything seems to be fine, but no or very little spark whatsoever!!! and the truck still wont run it just keeps turnig over and nor firing. also checked fuel supply, plenty o fuel!!!! can anyone help me out here????
I don't think leaving the key on is going to hurt anything. Unplug the distributor and put a voltmeter across the pickup contacts. You should see a couple of volts ac while cranking.
ok, i put in a new coil last night still no fire to the plug wires!!!!!!!! heres a recap,
replaced whole distributor
replaced the control module
replaced the coil
checked the supply wires for the coil and module, they are getting the proper voltage
still no fire to the plug wires!!!! the only things left to be replaced are the cap, rotor and plug wires wich were all purchased about 2 weeks ago before i had this problem!
Sorry I asked a redundant question. I was re-reading the posts and you already said you checked the voltages, at the coil plus I assume at the red wire to the module.
Double check that you have voltage to the coil when it is cranking.
And I would also check and make sure that black wire going to the distributor has a good connection to ground.
they say the whole system is grounded through that black wire going to the dist. I am assuming you did your voltage checks with one meter lead to a metal part of the body. I wonder what voltage you get when you put your negative meter lead on the black wire?
If all this checks ok, then do the spark test again. If you get a fairly strong spark(you may need to charge the battery a little bit after all this troubleshooting), you may have another problem. These things can run you around in circles sometimes.
