another carb problem
because i am having to set the idle screw pretty high so it can idle right.
If the throttle is at any position and not moving, the accelerator pump does not discharge any fuel. When the throttle moves to a more closed position, the accelerator pump does not discharge any fuel.
You should have a throttle return spring attached directly to the throttle lever. Unless you apply some force to the accelerator pedal, that spring should pull the throttles closed all the way to the idle position. The throttle idle position is set by either a throttle positioner device (solenoid or dashpot, for example), or an idle speed set screw (on the side of the carb next to the throttle lever).
If the linkage applies force against the throttle return spring to open the throttle any amount, with no pressure on the accelerator pedal, then the linkage needs to be adjusted or lubricated.
Where do you have the idle mixture screws set now to get the engine to idle?
