I'm new on this site. Have two 62 Unibodies and have a question. Both were built at the Dallas plant and both have a cast emblem on the right door just below the wind wing that says XLT. I was not aware the XLT was available back then. One is a custom cab, one isn't, but both have the same emblem in the same location. I don't see how both trucks could have had this emblem put on the doors by two different owners who in all probability never knew each other. What gives?
Maybe it was a local dealer install, if both trucks were originally from the same area. Since you live in TX and the trucks were made in TX, there is a pretty good chance that they came from the same dealer new. I have never seen XLT logos on any slick.
I will try to get pics tomorrow or Monday. Like I said I don't see how two different people would have had the same idea on their trucks. To have put the emblem in exactly the same place on each truck would have one chance in a million. Each truck was sold at different dealers also.
Hi Ed, One thing I can pass on for sure, the info you get here, you can take to the bank. The guys around here have worked hard to make this a dependable place to get the skinny on these 40 year old trucks.
Not doubting the veracity of anyone, just thinking that maybe this might be a regional thing. I'm also into Oldsmobiles and some GM dealers sold models that were regional sales only. Around Dallas in the mid seventies some dealers sold a version called a "Bold Olds" with custom badging and some special trim. Thought this might be like that.
