explorer chugging

I have a 98 ford explorer sport that has started chugging in lower gears. What might be causing this? Thanks BRusis

98 chugging

It is a V6 4.0? It has a 100,000 miles and I really haven't had any problems with it. I've replaced hoses and belts as needed but that it. BR

If you haven't replaced tune up items (spark plugs & wires, fuel filter, air filter, etc), I'd start with those after 100K miles.

I did replace the spark plugs last year. Fuel filter I don't know about and air filter is replaced as needed. I will try the spark plugs and fuel filter. Thanks Betsy

I agree with mrshorty, you need a major tune-up. Also have codes read and erased. New wires along with filters should do the trick. Let us know and good luck.
