Down side of having the aluminum valve cover and intake is the aluminum oxidize, or what ever process it is referred to with alum. Wonder if anyone has found clear coat paint that can take the heat and still maintain the polished appearance. Have used the clear aerosol paint on alum. parts that do not take the heat and seems to hold up fine.
In meantime, will continue using 'Mothers' metal polish.
I used a clear coat on some motorcycle valve covers last summer and they've held up well. Dupli-color in a rattle can. Says it's engine enamel w/ ceramic on the label and good to 500 deg. Got it at Autozone. Doesn't have quite the sheen of high polished aluminum, but it's not bad and a lot less maintenance.
