backfire through carb????, No start.
Hey guys, I have backfire through carb, but no fire, just gas. Sparks at the plugs are good. Replaced fuel pump and messed with distributor, but the rotor is at the number one with TDC. What are the most likely causes of this???????
gas at carb.........good
spark at plug......good
Number 1 TDC....good
voltage and coil..good
Any help would be appreciated.......I know this sounds simple, but I'm stumped.

Was distributor removed ?; if so could it be 180 out. crank 2X for each rotation of cam. Cam may not be on compression stroke, but on exhaust stroke; when you have it pointed to #1. If this makes sense; pull distributor at current TDC and then rotate crank one turn CW and reinsert distributor at real TDC. You'll still be pointed to #1, but you will be on a compression stroke with both valves closed.
