Brake Thump
Hey all, great site here.
I have a F250 SD v-10 4x4 off-road with 60K miles. I'm getting a thump in the left front while braking. Either going foward or reverse, high or slow speed, quick or long stop...doesn't matter. The left front squeels like a pig everytime I brake, untill I increase the brake pedal about halfway thru the stop. I did a search and came up with a few ideas, but not exactly my problem. The pads are new (really didn't need changed), rotors didn't need turned, caliper bolts greased, etc. It was built in 10/99 about the time the old/new rotor and caliper problem came about. Any suggestions? I don't want to chase the problem with cash.
Thanks

The thump is felt in the floor board actually, not much feed back thru the wheel. It can be clearly heard standing outside the vehicle when we where trying to figure it out.
I did the pad change myself, I'll scuff 'em up again, but the problem remained immediatly after I changed the pads.
I'm baffled here, and I know a little bit about working on a vehicle. I've got two off-road jeeps, one with a complete custom suspension I built myself, and I race dirt track modifieds as a back-up driver/pit man and suspension set up man in the garage.
At any rate, I still love my F-250. Better than the dodge I had, and way better than my dad's dodge diesel 1-ton that has a $200-300/month needing parts habit. Chevy's...all they make is donor motors for racin'!!!!
thanks

Shock bushings and bolts.
Sway bar links.
Body mounts.
Spring hanger.
Front slip yoke.
However, none of these would address the squealing issue.
They must be seperate issues...
If not, the only culprits that I can come up with are the ones that deal directly with the affected caliper. Glazed pad and/or rotors. Mis-aligned/improper pad installation. Pad shift. Worn or wrong size or broken caliper bolts. Caliper slides broken or out of tolerance somehow.
When you find out, please let us know what the cause was!
Good skill to you! (I don't believe in luck)
