fuel pump/sending unit

mechanic at garage says that fuel pump and sending unit are 2 different items. in my haynes ford truck manual shows them as a one piece unit,guy at auto zone says its a one piece unit also.this is for a92 f150 with dual tanks,i think mechanic was trying to rip me off by charging me 200.00 for apart that didnt exist.whats up with that,any input............

You can buy a fuel pump separate from the sending unit, or you can buy a sending unit with a fuel pump already installed on it. I'm not sure if you can get the sending unit by itself though.
