C8 and C9 casting are pretty much the same as the D0VE's. Don't know about the crack fixing though.

C8VE through D1VE are all the same.

The crack could possibly be welded. You need an experienced cast iron welder to look at it.

Little known fact - you can buy completely reconditioned D0VE spec heads at Auto Zone for $150 each, as long as you return a rebuildable core.

While this is true, my local AutoZone requires a core of the same casting number.

In other words D0VE for a D0VE.

Superdave, wouldn't they accept say, C8VE heads in exchange for D0VE? They are exactly the same.

I can picture them at AutoZone rummaging around looking for D0VE heads when there are C8s and C9s on the shelf.

I understand what your saying. To the best of my knowledge they are the same thing. But the store manager told me you had to have an exact core.

At my local, small town store, the employee's actually drag race, build their own cars and know something about parts. You would not be able to slip it by on them.

Now, the next closest store that is 45 miles away in a big city, I feel very sure you could slip it by them. They don't know any more than what their computer screen shows them.

If I offend a A-Z counter person, sorry. Just call em like I see em.
