You normally hear a "PSST" when your air compressor motor stops. That is the pressure release operating. This is usually used on electric motors tho, maybe some small gas powered rigs too. I just wondered whether you were using one. With the HP you have in your truck you don't need one.
A check valve at the tank is probably a good idea.
There are mentions here re automatic tank drains that you can buy. A search on "compressed air" will probably find them.
Yeah, a local surplus store here has lots of compressor and tank parts, including the automatic tank drains, but I think I'll just make sure I empty my water filter often, and install a manual drain at the bottom side of the tank.
I don't like the idea of something going wrong with that automatic drain and me being stranded.
Put a small manual valve on to shut off the drain so that if the auto fails you can seal the "leak" easy. If you are like me you will forget to empty that tank often enuf.
Make sure your tank has a pressure relief and that it gets warmth from the engine to keep condensate in it from freezing too bad.
Also put a shrade valve on the tank so you can fill your air tank from an air hose at a filling station.
The shrade valve is just in case the compressor fails, You wouldn't want to be stranded. Put good poly bump stops in the suspension also in case of a bag failure.
This is getting beyond a Garage Forum topic and into truck tech tho.
