What engine do i have

I have just brought a 1979 F350 and i don't know what engine it has, It is a big block it has dove-c stamped on the heads and i cant find any stamps on the block except DIF stamped behind the manifold next to the thermostat if any one could help or tell me where there are any other stamps on the block it would be greatly appreciated. Also what are dove-c heads.

D0VE-C are early high compression heads for the 429/460. If the heads say that, the engine must be a 385 series. The heads are plainly not stock for that model, so it's likely that the engine has been built up.

DIF stands for Detroit International Foundry. That's where the block was cast.

Looks like you lucked into a nice find. Those D0VE heads will make a lot more horsepower than the stock '79 engine would.

The block casting # is on the side of the block above the starter. You may have to pull the starter to read it all.

Thanks for the info guys, I will pull the starter off in the next few weeks to have a look as the exhaust manifolds are in the way as well.
