Rings?

I'm to the part where I start measuring the end gap on the rings. I got the first and second rings down, I think? But not sure how you measure end gap on the oil control ring. This is for my 79 Supercab 351M. It has been bored .040. the book says .010-.020, and Hasting says .004 x bore(4.00) for a minimum of .016 and max of .040. I figure It would be better to go with Hastings specs. The oil control ring says .010- .035 by the book, Hastings .016-.040. I'm still not sure how to measure the oil control ring. Do I measure all three pieces of the oil control ring? Any help will be appreciated. This is my first time doing this and I don't want to mess it up. Thanks, Uncle Jesse.

Yes, measure them seperately and don't forget to debur the edges after filling. On a side note...make sure to space the gaps properly when installing on the piston.

thanks moneypit. got them all measured. most were fine but had to file a few. now grab me a sandwich and head back out to the shop. If only the snow would let up. Uncle Jesse
