Question 429 Cylinder Head ID? please help

Hello you all,
I have been in search of Cylinder heads for my 79 460 to increase the compression ratio. I went to a wrecking yard and asked if they have 429 cylinder heads pre 72. He showed me a engine that he claims to be a 71 429. I looked for the casting number on the heads and was unable to find any just a blank place where I found other casting numbers on other engines. I looked on the head just below the valve cover on both sides and was unable to find them. Then I tried looking on the block for info but was unable to look under for the block numbers. The intake has D1VE-AD on the front with the firing order. I does not look like the numbers were grinded off. Can anyone tell me where else I can look for the casting numbers. Oh on the block in front and back I found 116-117.

The head casting numbers are usually plainly visible right above the exhaust manifold. If they are not there, I don't know what to say. I've never seen heads that didn't have them somewhere.

The intake manifold number is correct for the year, but heads can be swapped. It may be that someone swapped the heads for rebuilt ones at some point and the numbers were ground off. They can be ground off without leaving any signs of it.

I'd be suspicious of them. If you can take them off, then you can easily measure the capacity of the chambers using light motor oil and a syringe or measuring cup that is calibrated in CCs.

D0VE spec heads ('68-'71) have 75.8 cc chambers. Later model (low compression) ones are all over 90 ccs. Just fill the syringe with oil, make sure the head is upside down and perpendicular, and fill one of the chambers to the top. Do some math to see how much oil it took, and you'll have your combustion chamber displacement. Then you'll know if they are low or high compression.

The block castings are up above the starter on the side of the block.

I just remembered that there were tubes or supports coming from the front and back of the heads. Is that something I should be worried about also. The yard guys is saying 100 dollars for the heads with an exchange. Other than trying to look for the block casting can you give any other suggestions. Like under the valve covers.
