fuel pump problems

fuel pump problems

I have a 86 Ford Ranger 2.9L 4wd.
When I turn the key over, all I get is a click.
No Fuel pump sound.
Can someone help?

Check the fuse?

I checked the fuse and it's ok.
I had the heads done, so I am thinking a have a short or bad connection, but I have no schematic.

Try checking the fuel pump relay on passenger side by the air cleaner

I here something clicking everytime I turn the key to the on position.I assume this is the relay?
Now to check the relay, do I use a jumper wire to battery to test?

You can jumper from the battery but will need a schematic to make sure you get the right wire. Alot of times if you have help put finger on relay while someone turn on the key you can feel it close and if it's bad you will feel it open . I had this problem a long time ago I jumpered from the battery to the high pressure pump on frame because I wasn't sure of the right wire at the relay didn't want to mess anything else up GOOD LUCK!
