Flowmaster 40 is just right!!!

I put the American Thunder on my 96 F-150 and was a little dissapointed. It came with the 50 series SUV muffler. I looked on Ebay and found a 40 series for next to nothing and got a new extension pipe from Flowmaster. I put it on tonight and all I can say is "Oh mama". It's got the rumble that I want inside the cabin, not at all overwhelming, but your aware it's there and sounds great. Outside, yeez, you stand on it, and look out. They shoud have put that in the kit in the first place. It sounds mean now, like a good Ford should. You'll have those dumb kids in Civics with the fart pipes hanging their heads in shame, like they should.

That's awesome man, I'm proud for you. I assume that you installed the kit yourself. If you did, was it very hard to do?

I believe that it depends on which 50 series you get. My friend has the street/strip 50 series on his Camero Z28 and it sounds pretty good, nice and deep, and you can hear it when he gets on it. If yuo go the delta flow though, it's gonna quiet the truck down quite a bit.

Yeah the 50 series is a fairly mellow sounding muffler. The only time you can really hear it is when you first startup (nice lil' bark/growl) and when you are really getting on the gas. Other than, its a fairly mellow burble with very little interior resonance. The 50 series sounds better on the modular engines and the 40 series sounds better on the older (302, 351, etc) engines. JMHO.

Well I did do it myself and I did learn a few things along the way. First, I'm glad I had the sawzall, it took a lot of the pain out of the install. Second, when you remove the old system make the cuts just on the inside of the factory endstoppers. If you don't you can't feed the rest of the bracket through the hanger and you now have no leverage in bracing it to make the right cut, that took the most time. The system is a single in dual out and the 40 series that I bought was off of ebay and the persons name was performancepeddler. He sell them all over there, just put in a search for flowmaster and you'll find it, mine was 37 dollars plus shipping and was there in a couple of days. As for the original 50 that came with the American Thunder, I just couldn't hear it. There were several posts talking about cabin drone and I was like you can't hear it unless you floor it. The 40 series was perfect and I gave Flowmaster the part number for the extension pipe and for like 27 dollars sent me a new one that I cut for the 40 series, it's shorter that the 50 series. It sounds great now, but it's too cold to drive with the windows down and listen to it (5 degrees).
The muffler was Flowmaster #430402 and the extension pipe was #TB221.

I put one of those kits on myself, fairly easy and straight-forward. I aggree that the American THUNDER should come with a 40, or at least an option for one.

you guys know if the 40 sounds good on the 300? how did you connect the new exhaust to the old pipe? i dont know how to weld so some sort of clamp would be nice, but i'm not sure if they make that.

Yes performancepeddler on ebay is who I got mine from. It was there in a couple of days and it was 47 after shipping. I recommend him if you want a good buy with quick shipping. Just an update, the Flowmaster is sounding better the more miles I put on it.
