Talking Oil Filter

Does anyone know of another brand of oil filter besides Motorcraft or Wicks?? Fram has a part # but I can't find anyone who sells it locally.

Hey Motown. Welcome to the forum. Do a search on oil filters on this forum. Be careful of cheap knockoffs. There are some quality issues. You have an engine that costs about $12,000 to replace if you do it out of your own pocket. You can order the filters off the Internet and get some deals.

Welcome to the nuthouse Motown

Check out oilguard.com
Last time I checked they had a 3 pack of filters for 63 bucks (21 each) or a six pack for $114 (19 each)
They also sell the fuel filters
With a 7,500 mile change interval I haven't even had my dealers free oil change yet. But after that I will be checking further into the availabilty and cost of the oil filters so I can change my own.

I have already started to buy oil one gallon at a time to stockpile in my garage so I wont have to go broke buying 4 gallons and a filter all at the same time. Last time I did the math a do it yourself oil change cost about $45.00 thats just the cost of the oil and filter.. If you wanna go with the synthetic oil, figure on double that cost

I ordered filters from e-bay (search on ford filters). Paid about 15 dollars a piece for a batch of six. My dealer wanted 25 each.

7500 miles on the same oil? Not me, especialy the orginial factory oil, I get mine done at 3000 miles for $ 89.00 at the dealer. If you do it yourself at half the cost why extend it?

I was stating the recomended oil change intervals .
I may change at 5,000 miles which I think is about average

You can get into an argument over when to change. From "just change the filter and add a quart" right down to "after every other tank of fuel" or "every 100 miles I change my oil and I never had the engine seize"

But when is it soon enough and when is it too long is a personal choice at anything under what the manufacturer recomends
Even then the manufacturer says under severe condition change it before 7,500 miles
As far as paying $89 bucks to have the dealer do it. I would rather do it myself and know that it was done. It has happend to friends with motorcycles that took them in for oil changes and all the dealer did was wipe an oily rag over the filter. Same could happen at a blue oval dealer, especially a high volume dealer with high school shop dropouts doing the "routine services"
Wiping an oily rag over the filter housing is a high profit margin for the dealership especially at $89 bucks a wipe

Well, changed my original fill oil at 4950 miles, and did an analysis. Came back with very good results, and a recomendation that the oil could have continued in regualr use. Didn't, but could have. I won't let the dealer touch my truck, unless absolutly necessary. Flunkies abound, not only in the routine maintenance area.

I would not put a Fram filter on a $40k truck. But then I wouldn't put a Fram on a wheel barrow either!

I'm with you lariat. All routine mx is done by me. The only time the truck goes to the dealer is for warranty work. I'm getting ready to do my 10000 mile change and will get a blackstone report done on that.
